Great Drill
Rating: 5
I recently opted to try the Black and Decker 20v, cordless, drill/driver. I received this product free as part of the Walmart Sparkreviewer program. I asked my husband for some input for this review as he has more experience than I do with power tools. The drill comes packaged with a charging unit and an instruction manual and one dual headed drill bit that can be clipped to the drill for easy storage. The first thing that I noticed about the drill, besides the fact that it is sharp looking, was its weight. It is very light and easy to hold. We have a cordless drill at home, but it is bigger and heavier. As a woman I find the Black and Decker drill much easier to handle. The shaft of the handle is shorter than our other drill and it doesn't feel so top heavy. I had my husband hold it as well and it fit his hand nicely, as well. There are finger grips on the shaft that make hand placement comfortable. We were thinking that because of its small size that it would not be powerful, but we were pleasantly surprised. The thing that we liked the best was that the drill has a light on it that shines where you would be placing the drill bit. While there is a light on our current drill it doesn't come on until you start to drill but the Black and Decker light comes on when you push the trigger half way, so you can see where you are putting the drill bit. We both found this to be a great feature. The drill comes with a 20v lithium ion battery that is rechargeable. The battery was easy to remove from the drill and attach to the charging unit and there is a light on the charger that lets you know that it is charging. We charged the battery overnight before trying. Like most drills these days this unit has torque control, which allows for you to adjust the force of the dill. I found it easy to adjust the chuck (my husband's word) to insert and release a drill bit. This is something that I have had trouble with in the past and as a result and at the suggestion of my husband, I put on a glove during this process because it can hurt if you are not careful and also because if you've ever had to remove a screw that was incorrectly inserted (and I have, lol) they sure can get hot! Both my husband and I tested the drill using different sized screws by driving them into some left over 2x4's and 4x4's. We were both surprised by how powerful this drill was. We also tested the torque control and found that it worked as it should. If we were doing a home project together this would be the drill that I would go for and depending upon the project, we might even fight over it, lol. As for battery life, we tested the drill on and off for about ½ an hour and it was still going strong, however, we were only drilling in small to medium sized screws (nothing big), which might make a difference. The only downside is that this drill only comes with one battery, so it might be proactive to purchase a back-up battery. All and all I found this drill to work very well and would recommend it to others.

I like it

I feel very handy for in the house. My hubby has one that I could use, but I wanted one for myself inside the house. So far I have installed a much needed towel rack for the bathroom and the power tool did exactly what I needed it to do. I like Black + Decker!!!

This Black + Decker 20 volt lithium ion cordless drill/driver is something everyone should have amongst their tools. It is well constructed, light weight, and has good power. The handle fits the hand very comfortably. It has many wonderful features: 11 position clutch, LED light, variable speed trigger switch, forward/reverse button, keyless chuck, torque adjust collar, bit tip storage compartment, and a battery release button. It comes with the 20 volt lithium ion battery and charger. The battery is easy to load and unload. It is easy to load and unload drill bits and screwdrivers. It easily reverses speed. You can drill into wood, metal, or plastic. The LED light comes on automatically when drill is activated and lights up the immediate work area.

Very handy and easy to use!

I had been wanting something like this for a while. I moved into a new house a year ago and there were and still are so many projects to do to make it feel like home. Installing blinds and curtains, replacing light fixtures, and assembling furniture. This drill has helped tremendously! Things go a lot faster with this and it comes is super handy. Even just switching out wall plates was made easier and faster. It obviously has a superior name attached to it with Black & Decker and it doesn't disappoint with quality. It's sturdy but still lightweight enough to carry around the house. It simple to use and the battery charges quickly. The battery also had a long life between charges. I think this is a must have around the house and was a great addition to our tool box. I would recommend this to others and it would make a great gift!

Highly recommend this saw

I presently have an electric reciprocal saw but up to now have not used it because I am always afraid I will accidentally cut the electrical cord and it is still in original brand new box. I am an older person of 73 years and am having a very good time using my battery operated reciprocal saw I am even going to neighbors just so I can use my saw , you just need to have an extra battery .

Great drill for home use.

The Black and Decker 20V Max Lithium Cordless Drill is a handy drill. It charged in under 4 hours for a first time charge using a 20-volt lithium ion battery. Nominal voltage is 18. This drill has good balance and is not too heavy. It has an LED light to light up the work area, which is a nice feature. This Black and Decker drill has a convenient bit tip storage area just below the grip where the bit snaps securely on to the base. The grip is nice because it is not too large in diameter for smaller hands and the rubbery material seems very slip resistant. This drill has a keyless chuck and a variable speed trigger switch. The more you press the trigger, the higher the speed. The location of the forward/reverse control button is close to the handle and easy to reach while holding the handle without losing your grip. This forward/reverse control button also is a lock button when in the center position and locks the tool in the off position. Black and Decker offers a 30-day money back guarantee as well as a two year limited warranty on this drill. The only negative thing about this tool is the lack of a level bubble, I find that very helpful. Even so, this is a good solid drill.

Good Buy

Black and Decker 20V Max Lithium Model BCD702 The Black and Decker is a pleasing orange and black color combination. Unfortunately the tools and accessories are made in China and battery cells made in South Korea,Japan, China or Malaysia but aren't most things now a days. The brochure gives you common sense safety tips. The entire brochure should be written in a dark black color instead of just sub categories. If you don't know these already you should walk away from all power tools. For example, do not charge battery pack with a different charger, do not leave charger out in the snow or rain, etc. The battery needs to be fully charged before its first use. You need to recharge your battery as soon as you finish your first use and do not let the battery run to empty. There is a green LED light that will indicate to you when the battery is fully charged. When removing the battery pack, make sure it is fully charged. I was not able to run the battery down enough putting it through it's paces, so I cannot comment on how long the charge will last. However all lithium batteries properly charged will lead to a longer life. Don't let the battery become totally dead and only charge the battery between 40 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit. With the battery installed it feels slightly bottom heavy but not objectionable . For removing a jammed drill bit, you should use a counter clockwise motion. When you are drilling or tightening screws, you should use a clockwise motion. Inserting a drill bit or accessory is easy. If you hold the rear half of the chuck and with your other hand rotate the front half in a counter clockwise direction, you will be able to add a drill bit. If you are still a little uncertain, the brochure has pictures. There are many types of projects you can use this drill. It will drill in wood, drill in metal and will drive screws. Furthermore, there is a integrated LED work light that will automatically light up the project you are working on. The Black n Decker drill also has a storage slot in the base of the tool so you don't lose your bits. It would be a good idea to register your drill on line in case of loss, need parts or for any recalls that might occur. There is a toll free number if you have any problems 1-800-544-6986 that is included in the manual. For a small light cordless drill driver, this one packs plenty of power. Cons: The drill model only comes with one battery. For a homeowner doing occasional jobs probably good enough. For someone doing heavier work an additional battery would be needed. The model is a one speed motor. There is no switch to adjust from driver mode to drilling mode. All adjustments are made through the trigger pull. Probably will take a while to get used to it but with proper torque settings this should not be a major issue.

Works as expected.
Rating: 4
Nice 3 tool set. Decent power for around the house and light woodworking. The light is actually brighter than I expected. The two batteries are decent enough, but you might think about adding an additional charger.
