Industrial like power at an unbeatable price
Rating: 5
I have been scrolling now for over two years. I started with other, cheaper brands that just did not cut it. Other saws vibrate all over the place, jam frequently, and have limited control over blade speed. The DeWalt 20 inch saw was like a godsend. Easy blade changes, limited vibration, excellent control over the blade, and so much more. I would recommend this saw to anyone, beginners and pros alike. Incredibly stable!

I upgraded my scroll saw with this gem and have not been disappointed. Rock solid, easy blade change outs, and great variable speed. I can't recall what life was like before this. My only issue is I can't keep my son away from it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Easy to use!
Rating: 5
I've had this scroll saw for a few months and I love it! I like how easy it is to change the blades, adjust the speed, and get projects situated on the cast top. Wish it came with a light already installed, but that's easy to work around. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Smooth and accurate
Rating: 5
My first saw was a cheap one, second was an old model that costs more than the Dewalt, more power and more aggressive cut, but blade wobbled and cut erratic, and the wobble caused the blade to bind on the work and lift it up and down. So I bought a Dewalt. Virtually no lateral movement with blade. Just a little pressure keeps work from lifting.Very little vibration. Able to cut much more accurately. It is a slower cut in the 1" ebony, ash, bubinga I am cutting, but that's ok, as long as it cuts true. Up front controls, variable speed, and a swingarm that flips up, all make it even better. I am surprised that there is not a dust collection port, or a latch to hold the upper arm up. But I am retired, and capable of making both, so just merely surprised.

Excellent!

I do a lot of fret work. Taking the blade loose to pass it through a hole and then re-attaching it has always been a long process... until I bought the DW788, that is! All I have to do is loosen the tension lever and turn a thumb screw. The blade stays attached at the bottom, and slides right back into place once I've passed it through a small hole in my workpiece. Then it's just a turn or two of the thumb screw, the turning the tension lever back to the number I had it set on, and I'm back at cutting again! Love it! I also love the fact that the area underneath the table is open and not boxed in, so it's easy to clean up. I rigged up a hose from my shop vac that connects to a 1” hose with a “Tee” and ran one side to the top and the other to the bottom. A few pvc insert fittings, hose clamps, and zip ties have made my saw nearly 100% dust free! And that's really important to me, especially because I cut a lot of hardboard and MDF, which creates a powdery dust that covers everything...and is dangerous to breathe!

Variable-Speed Scroll Saw
Rating: 5
I bought my Scroll Saw 10 years ago. I have gone through a few of other brands of saws but nothing like the Dewalt788 20in variable scroll saw. it is very easy to change blands, adjust the woodworking products as I made my cuts, variable speeds helped cut thin and thick woods. The scroll saw does not make any load noises and operates very smoothly. After all these years everything works wonderful and my scroll saw projects looks great. This Dewalt 788 Scroll Saw is the best on the market for beginners or professionals. I really enjoy my Dewalt product a lot. Thank you very much! Don't have any photos right now! Phenominal Saw/Bad Marketing Cost You
Rating: 4
Best recent purchase. Saw is 5+ star. Marketing is poor, to say the least. EXTRAS?? NO light, NO lifter, NO stand, uncomfortable knobs! Need actual round knobs, instead of "T" bolts. Better PR for you to include some items. Updates only improve your product.

So far so good, but noisy.
Rating: 4
I love how easy it is to use and very low, if any vibration. My only concern is it makes a very loud knocking noise. I've seen this issue brought up a lot online about the 788 2, I wish I could have gotten the 788 1. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

DOES THE JOB
Rating: 5
I have been using this saw for over 3 months now. I use it to cut out all sorts of things for my business....crosses, doves, Easter items, hearts, and so on. I use Skil blades with it. I've not had a problem with maneuvering the wood through the blade. I am able to cut circles, tight places, and curves with ease. It works great for me. The light does vibrate and can be annoying. My work space is well lit, so it's not like I depend on that light. I'm happy with it and the price I paid.

Highly recomended.

This tool exceeds my expectations. Better than the Rockwell i had for 5 years. This is great for hobby or up to 1/2 in thickness. Not for professional use. Great for cutting all soft or hard wood for my Viking long boat i am making. Great controll using a good grade of saw blade. You will be happy with this scroll saw.

Saw is ok as expected, but the whole blade guard assembly seems cheesy and a bother. Too, the support rod is sloppy in the holder. I do think the blade holder knobs could be a little more comfortable to grip and the lower one, at least, extended a little. At the back of the upper arm is a socket with a threaded hole for a set screw. There is no mention of what this is for. Presumably, it is for some other light, but that's a best guess. It still amazes me that in the hundreds of years scroll saws (used to be called jig saws) have been around, a flush table insert is still unavailable. It annoys me to have to make a jig of some sort for a new tool that is supposed to work. Other that those minor things, the saw is fine and I'm as happy as I ever am.

Performs Well
Rating: 4
I purchased this tool a couple months ago. Since then I have completed a couple of projects and it has been terrific. The unit is easy to operate and makes woodworking fun. I used C clamps to secure the device front and rear on my bench and it bums along just fine. Finished up a family of owls with my grand daughter and am liking forward to making wooden muscle car replicas.

Works for me
Rating: 4
I just cut small stuff with this and it works just fine. Only thing that bugs me is the light vibrates and doesn't stay still but I light my work area with other lighting anyway so it's not that big of a deal. All and all it's a fine saw for the money.

very good, love the way it cuts, On the other hand it does have some vibration and I wish skil would make a stand for this saw, it does take up a lot of space on the work bench

Nice saw for the price.
Rating: 4
Have always enjoyed woodworking, but had never uses a scroll saw before. Bought this to learn and provide an additional hobby in my retirement years. "Got my feet wet" by downloading a deer scene off the internet and then cutting it out on plywood. Made a few small goofs along the way, but my family members were amazed at the results of my first project. Yes, this saw has some excessive vibration at higher speeds, but at low-to-medium speeds no problem. The blade is easy to disconnect and reconnect to get at the internal cutouts (used the pin type blade). Placed a portable shop light directly overhead to help to see details. I am very happy with the performance of this saw how easy it was to learn on. Am looking forward to many hours indulging in this new hobby with this new tool.

Ok for hobbies.
Rating: 3
Difficulty with blade installation and have not been able to keep non pin blades attached to holders. Manual not helpful and had to figure out how to tighten blades in top and bottom holders. Once I figured out how to install pinned blades and how to tension, cutting was good. The screw for the hold down safety guard would not stay tightened so I am cutting with out and not having a problem. Motor is powerful enough for cutting 3/4 material.

Good for the price...
Rating: 3
Lot of vibration, but that's partially the table I have it on, but I have continually tighten various things because of that... not a huge deal, really. My main complaint is that it's supposed to take pin end and regular blades, but it won't hold the regular ones. All in all, it's a good purchase for hobbyists like me.

Not Imprested
Rating: 3
I bought this because I needed one fast. First off I think the light is to short. And the Blades are breaking at the top near the pin. I have been scrolling for years and never had this problem. How ever this is the first one that I had to play with the speed maybe its not set right. Also the no tools blade change is hard to get to on the bottom and I don't think the top is straight after tightening it. And the little red pop out by the blade is to low it keeps catching the wood because its not level maybe after some dust gets in there it will be better. But its not a bad saw I would recommend it.
