Perfect for small shop

I did a lot of research before buying a miter saw for my small wood shop. Many of the 10″ models were less money, and were decent saws but were not sliders, and had an amp draw rating of 15 amps. My breaker panel is in my basement, and my shop is in a detached garage, so when I pop a breaker, I have some legwork to do. This saw is rated at about 9 amps (allows for some wiggle room for a shop-vac on the same circuit), has a great cutting capacity, and excellent reviews. It is perfect for the small furniture or hobbiest shop. Cost a little more than the “others”, but very much worth the investment.
Lack of quality

I litachi tools but fell this model lacks the durability to carry the name. I have worked with Hitachi tools for over 25 yrs and would rank them high on the list but the C8FSE 8-1/2″ Sliding Compound Miter Saw needs to go back for redesign. I bought 2 saws at once and in a months time the brushes needed replaced on both. Then in another month the brushes when in one and had opened the gap on the plates on the armature causing sparks and eventually quit working. I need to take it in for warranty work as it is under the 90 day mark.
It is the best silde compound miter saw I have ever used

The Hitachi C8FSE 8-1/2″ Sliding Compound Miter Saw has such a dependability on accuracy and ease of use that is unbelievable to have survived in the market for so long. I have the good fortune of owning one and it has saved my day on the job several times. The only parts I have had to replace so far are the saw blades and soon will be the motor brushes. I used my saw to cut laminated floor boards, regular framing lumber, moulding, trim and casing. It is really a workhorse. I will recommend this saw to any serious craftsperson.
20 + years old and still cutting

I have owned this saw for over 20 years. I believe I bought it when it first came out, or close to it. I am a finish carpenter and used the saw everyday, all day to trim houses. Easiest saw to use for trim I have ever owned. Dependable and low maintenance. Very durable. I gave the saw to my son-in-law, but I still grab it to use on some projects. I bought brand “B” and wish I had simply kept using my Hitachi. I may replace brand “B” anyway. Great saw.
Good Value with some concerns

This was my third purchase of Hitachi’s
8-1/2″ compound slide miter saw, going
back to the 1990s. This latest version
evolved into a product that feels less
substantial than earlier ones. On the plus side, the fully wrapped guard around
the blade is a neccessary plus. Did notice that manufacturing went from Japan to China. Accessory clamp is a joke when compared to previous version. Price is reasonable for what you get.
